Everything you need to know before your first session.
Treating the pelvic floor can look so vastly different from patient to patient — there is no one size fits all approach. Pelvic floor therapy at Enlightened incorporates a biopsychosocial approach.
Together we put on our detective hats and address all aspects of daily life: peeing, pooping, fitness routines, sex, hormones, social relationships, and mental health factors. We try to find the root cause instead of a band-aid treatment.
Internal and external vaginal exams are offered as they can be valuable pieces of information, but only if applicable and a safe consensual rapport is built. Towards the end of the session, exercises or tasks will be offered along with a recommended timeline — with strategies to implement them easily into your day-to-day life.
Pelvic floor occupational therapy focuses on the muscles, connective tissue, and nerves of the pelvic region. As an occupational therapist, I take a whole-person approach — helping you return to the activities that matter most to you, whether that’s exercise, intimacy, or simply getting through the day without discomfort.
Your first session is a thorough evaluation. We’ll talk through your history, goals, and symptoms in depth. You are always in control of what we do and when — nothing happens without your informed consent and comfort.
Yes! Virtual sessions are available for consultations, follow-ups, and yoga and pilates. Some components of pelvic floor therapy translate well to telehealth, and I’ll always be transparent about what can and can’t be addressed remotely.
Every person is different. Some clients see significant improvement in just a few sessions; others benefit from a longer course of care. After your evaluation I’ll give you a realistic sense of what to expect for your specific situation and goals.
Enlightened Pelvic Health is a private, cash-based practice. Being restricted by insurance policies can impact the quality of care delivered — insurance companies often dictate treatment types, cap sessions, and may not address your personal goals.
We work for you, not insurance companies. No deductibles, no copays, no surprises. We do not contract with insurance (including Medicare and Medicaid) and are an out-of-network provider. HSA and FSA cards are accepted, and we can provide a superbill for potential reimbursement.
